NAP - small raised, directional fiber ends found in woven fabrics and flooring affecting the appearance, pile
NAIL-HEAD TRIM - upholstery detail using a series of decorative tacks
NATURAL FIBER - textiles made from animal or vegetable sources (Cotton, Linen, Silk, Wool)
NCIDQ - acronym for National Council for Interior Design Qualifications
NEOCON - well-recognized annual furniture and design exhibit held in Chicago Illinois
NEEDLEPOINT - hand-embroidery in a petit (small) point or gros (larger) point stitch on canvas
NEWEL POST - decorative post used to support the beginning or intermediate intervals of a staircase railing

NICHE - recessed wall area, often arched at the top and used to display sculptures
NON-RAILROADED - fabric patterns parallel to selvage
NYLON FIBER - strong, elastic synthetic (man-made) polyamide fiber offering resistance to abrasion, elasticity and strength, however, they pill and soil easily
NRC - acronym for "Noise Reduction Coefficient" measures the sound energy absorbed or reflected by the surface of a material
